Over the years I have definitely figured out different hacks that can work for my petite frame. As much as I preach to my petite ladies… your seamstress is your bff! There is nothing better than when I see girls rock an outfit that seems like it was made for their body. But sometimes you have to fake it and make it work. There are a few hacks I use for maxi dresses, but my favorite is to belt it!
Great hack without spending extra cash on a tailor, simply add a wide belt and good to go 🙂 I make a small fold on my waist, belt it and simply ajdust the belt. Always make sure you check the length and see if it’s even. If your dress has slit, consider the length. I would only recommend this hack for all your lightweight maxi’s, folding thicker material can make you look bulky. Not only can you belt your maxi dresses to fit your petite frame, but you can also use it to create an hourglass look!
I found this maxi dress on clearance late August for less than $20 and that my friends is a deal (unfortunately not on sale online)!! The colors and print screams fall! Loving the cold shoulder and the ruffles, it can’t get any cuter. I went with these block heel booties with gold details. The prefect booties to wear with a maxi dress!

That’s such a great idea, Mel!!! Since I grew up with my mom being a seamstress, I know that altering is the best option—but it’s definitely not always the easiest!!

I am on the shorter side, but not quite petite. I do have to hunt for pants in short lengths, and I usually prefer to shop petites. What has helped has been the ankle-length trend, I can usually find regular pants at cropped lengths that match my height without having to tailor them!

Mel, this dress! It is so pretty with the dark floral print. Paired with booties, it makes a great fall piece. And such an easy way to shorten the length to suit you frame…but I am also loving the belted look for myself! I often belt my shorter dresses but never considered belting a maxi.
