Hi loves,
So I’m sure you’ve heard the news from the Generation Z on their thoughts of our jeans. Apparently no one told us millennials how skinny jeans are so old. And if this didn’t make us feel like we belong in an ancient mummy museum, I don’t know what will! As much as I preach, wear what makes you feel good… I am also into trying new trends and styles. Remember how weird we felt when bell bottoms were out of style and we had to learn to love skinny jeans? We can totally do this again! Here is the cheat sheet into the new denim world

Mom Jeans
Definitely one of my favorites, even though it took lots of try ons before I was sold on this style. Mom jeans come in mid or high rise, fitted waist, butt, and mid thigh. They tend to be 100% cotton which can be a little tricky for curvy bodies. If an item is 100% cotton, this means there is no stretch whatsoever. So your butt may be flat with a huge gap in the back. I’ve been lucky to find some with some stretch. They key is finding a pair that has at least 1 to 2% spandex. If not I recommend sizing up 1 to 2 sizes for best fit. Mom jeans look great on all body shapes, as long as you find the right one.
Since these jeans are some out baggy, balancing your look is key! If you’re wearing a baggier top, go for a fitted bottom and vice versa. Style these jeans with a fitted top or bodysuit and a belt. You can also opt for a tucked in look.

Boyfriend Jeans
Boyfriend jeans are exactly what you are thinking. It’s a pair of jeans made to seem like it was borrow from your boyfriend. These jeans usually come in mid or low rise. Similar to the fit of mom jeans, but with a baggier leg. Even though I don’t own a pair currently, I still love these for the edgy vibes they give. These tend to have more stretch which can also be easier to fall in love with. If you are worried baggy jeans will make you look bigger, opt for a fitted or knot top.
Personally I love a pair with major distressed and cuff bottoms. Rock this denim with a fitted tee or bodysuit and definitely add heels into the mix!

Flare Jeans
Remember bootcut jeans? I wore them all the way up to my early 20’s. They make you butt look great and have you looking like you have supermodel legs 😉 Well babes they are back in different styles. Flare jeans can either have a straight leg, cropped, super flare bottoms, or looser throughout. This cut looks great in every body shape, but does wonders for short girls!
Style these classics with a bodysuit, flowy, tucked in, fitted, cropped or relaxed fit top!

Girlfriend Jeans
If you are looking for a denim between a boyfriend and mom jeans this is your girl! This style is fitted in your waist, butt, and thigh, leaving the leg to be looser. The bottom can range between straight to flare. Comes in low and mid rise. Looks great on every body shape with great stretch in them!
Rock your girlfriend jeans with a fitted, cropped or relaxed top. If you’re petite, add some heels to elongate your legs.

Culotte Jeans
Hello 70’s! If you want a pair of jeans that screams “chic”, I’m happy to introduce you to her! Culotte jeans are very identical to flare jeans, they are just cropped to mid calf. Not only are they perfect for summer, but they also come with stretch. They have a mid rise waistline to help show those curves even more.
When it comes to culotte jeans its all about street style and some edge to them. Wear them with a graphic tee, boyfriend blazer and pumps!

Low Rise Jeans
They are back! You either love or hate them, with no in between. They come in flare, boyfriend, girlfriend, skinny or straight leg. This style can be tricky with a lot of body shapes. See any style at your belly button or above helps accentuate your waistline which is the smallest part of your body. Sometimes low rise tends to give you a muffin top we are all desperately trying to avoid. Recently I bought a pair by mistake and to my surprise they weren’t as bad as I though. I have a really short torso, so it fits me pretty much like a mid rise. If you’re like me, I definitely recommend giving them a try.
If these are still your jam or if you have a short torso, pair them with a relaxed sweater or tee. You can also do a half tuck to create curves.

Dad Jeans
Not one of my favorites but a style that has been extremely trendy. Fitted waist, but loose on your butt, thigh, and leg. Comes in mid rise waistline with a straight leg. Being how loose they are, it can be a little tricky for lot of body shapes. Highly recommend if you have a straight body shape.
Wear this denim style with a bodysuit or cropped top to even out and flatter your figure.

Skinny Jeans
And we can most certainly not forget these! Don’t go throwing this style out of your closet. Because these babies work… millennial or not. Plus, they will ALWAYS be trendy! They flatter every body shape and come in low, mid, high, and super high waistline. Skinny jeans also have great stretch which will always make these my favorite!
Since they are a fitted style, rock them with any top! Seriously! Relaxed, cropped, fitted, oversize, the list goes on.

Are skinny jeans still your thing? Have you tired any other type of denim?

Such a great post, Mel! I have a bit of a denim addiction and love all styles of jeans from skinny to flared to cropped to baggy to distressed and everything in between! I do appreciate it though when there is a bit of spandex for stretchy comfort! You look great in all these styles. Thanks for linking with me!
