Hi loves,
I wanted to get this post out before the first day of summer, but sometimes life happens. Do you have your summer wardrobe ready? Hopefully you were able to get this together during quarantine. Even if you have tackel this, these 5 things you don’t need in your summer wardrobe is an easy fix.
Summer is my favorite season. Besides the amazing weather in upstate NY, summertime is the season to have a laidback, colorful wardrobe. No need to worry about layered or adding a jacket, it’s the simple season. I hear all the time about summer basics or what you should have in your summer wardrobe. And even though all these are great, it’s much easier talking about the things your don’t need in you wardrobe. I find it not only saves you extra cash on buying all the the most have summer pieces, but a task that is much easier to accomplished. After all, the nice weather is here and its time to really enjoy being outside.

Non Seasonal Clothing
I use to be the girl that kept everything in her closet. As much as I enjoy getting dressed in the morning having every clothing in your closet that you’re not even using can be overwhelming. It also takes up space that can be occupied with pieces you can actually wear now. Divide your closet between spring + summer and fall + winter. Store all non seasonal clothing in a spare closet or pack them into clear bins like these.
Clothes That Don’t Fit
This isn’t just for summer time, but we should only have pieces in our closet that actually fits us. I know we all have our favorite pair of jeans that we wore in college sitting in our closet waiting for the day we can actually wear them again. Guess what? Having items that don’t fit us not only take up space, but does nothing good for our self-esteem. Our body changes through so many different stages in our life. And sometimes it’s hard to love where our body is. Constantly seeing things in our wardrobe that don’t fit, prevents us from loving the body we have now.
Uncomfortable Pieces
Listen guys, it summer and it’s hot! As much as I love shoes, you will not find me wearing a pair of shoes that feels like my toes are in a blender. No way! Besides it too hot to be wearing an uncomfortable dress that every single time we eat we feel like we’re going to burst right through it. Get rid of those pieces asap!
Items You Didn’t Use Last Summer
The reality is, if you didn’t wear it last summer, you most likely won’t wear it now. I know so many ladies that hold on to things out of habit. Each year you move that summer red dress back into your closet knowing very well you won’t wear. Ever! You don’t want to get rid of it, because what happens if you need a red dress. But you know what actually happens if you need a red dress? You will go shopping for another one.
You Have a Different Lifestyle
We have all changed things in our life at some point. Different type of jobs, grew out of some of your favorite pastimes, became a mom. I remember helping a women detox her closet. She went from working at a law firm to being a stay at home mom. Yet she couldn’t bring herself to get rid of all those business suits, even though that isn’t the field she was currently in. I know a lot of our lifestyles will change, specially after this pandemic. Our closet should reveal who we are now and who we want to become. Not the girl we were yesterday.
What is one thing that shouldn’t be in your summer wardrobe?

These are great tips and advice! I actually employ the “if you don’t use last summer” rule not just in my closet but for different areas in our home. It helps me declutter a lot easier knowing that it isn’t loved as it should be. I hope you are well and having a good start to your day so far. Wishing you a fabulous weekend ahead!

100%! Love this post. I switch out my wardrobe too and it’s so exciting to bring out my spring/summer and the fall/winter bucket of things. It’s like rediscovering my clothes and then before putting them into my closet, I do a try on and purge. This year I am really having a hard time adding pretty pieces to my wardrobe because we aren’t going anywhere and I wasn’t going to work, so most of my stuff is from previous years and casual. I miss dressing up.
